The Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.
Based in Sleepy Hollow, New York, the RAC stewards the archival records of philanthropic organizations and other institutions and individuals working on behalf of the public good. It provides broad and equitable access to the collections in its care and contributes knowledge to its diverse communities of practice. The RAC is dedicated to preserving digitized and born-digital records and has developed workflows to support the efficient transfer of digital records from its donor organizations into the RAC’s preservation and archival management systems.
“Preservation is a key part of the RAC mission, vision, and values,” explains Ima Oduok, Assistant Digital Preservation Analyst. “Joining the DPC allows us to learn from and contribute to a global community of digital preservation practitioners and a wide network of knowledge and support.”
To demonstrate a commitment to good stewardship practices through digital preservation, RAC has prioritized developing sustainable and open-source infrastructure to facilitate the processing of born digital records in an NDSA award-winning initiative called Project Electron.
Anna Perricci, Head of DPC Americas, welcomed the news, saying: “We are delighted that the Rockefeller Archive Center is now part of the Coalition. Their commitment to investing in preservation is evident in their previous and current activity in this field. We look forward to learning from their work and their experiences, as well as to collaborating with them on their future endeavours."
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
