The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) as its latest Associate Member. NSLC is affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), founded in 1950 and formerly known as the Library of CAS, and has two branches in Chengdu and Wuhan. NSLC has a floor area of over 40,000 ㎡ and houses a collection of nearly 10 million volumes.
The core mission of NSLC is to provide comprehensive literature and information services, high-level scientific exchanges and communication services, as well as information services covering the entire S&T innovation value chain, which foster S&T independent innovation in natural sciences, cutting-edge interdisciplinary sciences and other high-tech fields. NSLC is dedicated to developing world-class information service capabilities and providing excellent services to its users by actively enriching resources, refining systems and innovating services.
“In the past, we have obtained a tremendous amount of valuable knowledge and information from the DPC, which has greatly assisted us in our work”, says Zhenxin Wu, Deputy Director of the Digital Preservation Center at NSLC. “The DPC has made remarkable efforts in promoting digital preservation concepts and knowledge, providing vital repositories of knowledge and resources for digital preservation work, and offering essential communication platforms for the digital preservation community. We look forward to joining the DPC, furthering our exchanges with global peers, and advancing our work.”
DPC’s Head of Australasia and Asia-Pacific Robin Wright welcomed NSLC to the Coalition, saying: “With the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences joining the Coalition, we not only welcome a new organization but also a new country to the DPC! Digital preservation is a challenge faced by organizations and individuals worldwide, and global collaboration allows us to exchange approaches and expertise. I am excited to work with NSLC on this shared challenge and anticipate gaining valuable insights from their perspective.”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
